The Best Time to Sell Your Used iPhone Is RIGHT NOW

The Best Time to Sell Your Used iPhone Is RIGHT NOW

It’s the worst-kept secret on the planet. We now know that Apple is announcing something on Sept. 9, and the smart money is that it will unveil a new iPhone (or possibly two new iPhones and a wearable, watch-like device).
As a result, prices for used Apple smartphones are steadily dropping — just like they always do prior to a new iPhone-palooza. In fact, according to gadget recommerce site Gazelle, over the past three years, prices for used iPhones have dropped roughly 20 percent in value during the month before a launch. NextWorth, which tracks average eBay sale prices for iPhones, says the drop is closer to 25 percent.
image
If you have an aging iPhone and you want to get the most for it before you inevitably upgrade to the latest and greatest, the time to sell is now.
Like, right now.
And yesterday would be even better.
Buy here nowNot everyone agrees that used iPhone prices are tanking. Nik Raman, co-founder of uSell, says prices on his buying marketplace may actually rise slightly before the launch, because he’s temporarily dropping the commission his site makes on each sale. But he also notes that prices traditionally drop another 15 to 20 percentage points after the announcement. So that’s a potential 40 percent drop in how much you can get for your iPhone if you wait too long.
Gazelle, NextWorth, and uSell offer 30-day price guarantees, so you can lock in a buyback price and then hold onto your old handset until you have the new one safely in hand.
Here’s a snapshot of how prices among the leading gadget resellers compared as of Tuesday afternoon. All prices are for base model 16 GB white or silver iPhones in good condition.
There are several obvious conclusions you can draw from this data.
• If you’ve got a Verizon iPhone, you’ll get more for it. The reason? They’re easier to unlock in bulk, making them more attractive to buyers who make their money selling them to overseas markets, Raman says.
• If you’ve got a Sprint handset, you won’t get very much. That’s because Sprint phones rely on CDMA technology that isn’t widely used abroad, Raman adds.
• Want to sell an older iPhone, like the 4s? You won’t make much. And you might as well give models older than the iPhone 4 to your kids or a recycling center — most resellers won’t accept them. (Though uSell will take your iPhone 3GS off your hands for $2.40.)

Microsoft set to unveil Windows 9 on September 30th

Microsoft is planning to unveil its Windows 8 successor next month at a special press event. Sources familiar with Microsoft’s plans tell The Verge that the software maker is tentatively planning its press event for September 30th to detail upcoming changes to Windows as part of a release codenamed "Threshold." This date may change, but the Threshold version of Windows is currently in development and Microsoft plans to release a preview version of what will likely be named Windows 9 to developers on September 30th or shortly afterwards. The date follows recent reports from ZDNet that suggested Microsoft is planning to release a preview version of Windows 9 in late September or early October.
A very early Windows 9 version for developers
The early technology preview will give developers a first look at the new mini Start Menu in Windows 9, alongside the removal of the Charms bar feature and several UI changes. Microsoft is currently compiling builds of Threshold ready for the preview that include an early version of Cortana, but it’s not clear if this particular feature will be made available as part of the technology preview.
While Threshold is likely to be named Windows 9, it’s unlikely that Microsoft will name its upcoming Windows release at its press event. Instead, Microsoft is said to be planning an overview of key new features of the upcoming operating system, with a technical preview ready for developers and enthusiasts. Microsoft is also building a separate combined version of Windows RT and Windows Phone, and the company may take the time to detail this work during its press event. Either way, Microsoft’s next version of Windows is nearing completion and the company will be ready to talk more about it next month.

Now charging phone as easy as walk in park

Two 15-year-old school boys have developed a device that will enable a shoe to charge a mobile phone while walking. Anand Gangadharan and Mohak Bhalla, both students of south Delhi’s Mount Carmel school, have invented a compact attachment, which, when attached to the heel of the shoe, will automatically act as a portable mobile charger.

Named ‘Walkie Mobi Charger’, this gadget generates electricity up to six volts, as against five volts released through a plug point and ensures that the phone battery is charged at a faster pace. So if a plug-in charger takes half-an-hour to charge a phones up to 25%, the walking device will charge 40% of the battery in the same time.

“We have made this prototype as an attachment that can fit below a sports shoe. With more funds and better technical support, we plan to make this an inbuilt feature inside the sole of the shoe,” said Gangadharan.

This innovative design took over three months to materialise. The mould, wiring and shaping the metal sheets were all made by the two school boys. “Before the final model took shape, we had made three other models. In the first model, we had planned it to be like a proper shoe which would be attached to the belt but that seemed too bulky. We finally made something that would be convenient,” said Bhalla.

The device functions on the principle of electromagnetic induction. The compression and relaxation caused by walking creates pressure on the sponge attached in the middle which produces electricity. Two LEDs, blue and red, indicate the supply of electricity and battery charging, respectively.

The device is equipped to charge several models of phones. All one needs to do is connect the charger to the shoe while the phone rests in your pocket. “This is an effective way to utilise an alternate source of energy and is also a healthy way to decrease your electricity bills,” they said.

The Big 5.5-Inch iPhone Might Be Called The 'iPhone 6L'

Apple is expected to break from tradition and release two new phones with two different screen sizes this year.

Multiple reports say Apple will release a 4.7-inch model as well as a 5.5-inch model. The current iPhone is 4-inches, which is relatively small compared to Android phones.
When this happens, Apple will face a naming dilemma. Since the first iPhone rolled out, it's been pretty simple to name the iPhone. Here's how it's gone: iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5S, and the iPhone 5C.
But, with the iPhone 6 coming in two sizes, but supposedly otherwise similar specs, Apple has to come up with a way to differentiate.
With the iPad, Apple has the iPad Air for the 9.7-inch model, and the iPad Mini for the 7.9-inch model. But the iPad Air name doesn't really sound right. And the iPhone Air sounds kind of goofy for a 5.5-inch iPhone.
So, what could Apple do? Well, there's a rumor from a Chinese site that Apple might call the 5.5-inch iPhone the iPhone 6L, with the L presumably standing for "Large". The 4.7-inch iPhone would just be the iPhone 6 in this scenario.
It's also a little goofy, but it's better than iPhone Air, which doesn't make any sense. The "Air" name comes from the MacBook Air, which is a super light laptop. The iPhone is already plenty light, and odds are that the bigger iPhone won't be the lighter of the two, so it doesn't make any sense.
The iPhone 6L name comes from 9to5Mac, which spotted it at Asian site Apple Daily. Apple Daily won't load on our computer, but 9to5Mac's report doesn't seem to have an information on how Apple Daily came up with 6L. So, this is a thin rumor, treat it skeptically.
But, of all the naming conventions possible, the 6L makes the most sense.

New Documentary Claims Cell Phone Radiation Is Tied To Brain Cancer

Mobilize asks us to consider what electromagnetic radiation might do to kids growing up with devices. (Photo via Mobilize)

We all have a sneaking suspicion that our cell phones are bad for us. You hear it every day: they erode our attention span and keep us connected to social media when we should be paying attention to the people right in front of our eyes. But what if cell phones are actually physically bad for us?
Mobilize, an upcoming documentary from filmmaker Kevin Kunze, is the first feature-length documentary to examine the possibly harmful effects of cell phone radiation. The production value is shoddy at best — Mr. Kunze started the film as a student, and paid the production costs himself — but the film is dense with professors and researchers who testify that the effects of cell phone radiation on the human brain are very real.
The film zeroes in on a specific phenomenon — the effects of the radiation in cell phones when they are held against the side of your head. Cell phones emit a small amount of electromagnetic radiation when they transmit a signal, and the film asks whether or not that radiation has any effect on the human brain, the most sensitive area cell phones come in contact with.
As the film shows, most cell phone manufacturers include ass-covering disclaimers in their phone manuals, suggesting you keep your phone about an inch away from your face — an absurd request for someone who needed to, say, make a phone call. The radiation is real, but unlike health risks from tobacco, certain medicines, or cars, the warning has been relegated to fine print in small books that almost no one reads.
The FCC regulates both cell phone radiation and the media, and is heavily influenced by the cell phone industry's powerful lobbying group.

The biggest trouble with getting accurate research, Mr. Kunze said, is a tale as old as time in politics: lobbying money. For every independent research report that says there’s a tie between cell phone radiation and brain tumors, there’s an industry-sponsored report to refute it.
Additionally, The Wireless Association (CTIA

Top 5 Best Ways To Transfer Files From Computer To Android And Vice Versa

Today on All Top 9 we came up with Android subject, a basic knowledge regarding android devices that are known to many and may unknown to few. So, the best 5 methods to transfer files from computer to android and from android to computer are published as follows.
top-5-ways-to-transfer-data-from-android-to-computer-and-computer-to-android

Top 5 Best Ways To Transfer Files From Computer To Android And Vice Versa

The 5 best ways to transfer all our data from system to android or from android to system are been listed as follows.

AirDroid

In March this year AirDroid received an interesting update that opened the possibility to transfer files between computer and Android gestures, besides mirroring notifications on your computer and others.
Well, why not use AirDroid to transfer all those files we have this advantage synchronized with our Android tab? And thanks to that update, it is as simple as dragging the files you want to transfer to the browser window where we open AirDroid.

PushBullet

PushBullet has been updated as has been advancing development towards adapting to users: notifications Android on your computer, sync notifications across devices ... but the project itself was born with the aim of making it much easier to transfer files (among others) between your computer and Android, and that is something that continues to perfection and with astonishing speed. And when combined with the recent beta Windows application, the chances are much greater.

Software Data Cable

Much talk about alternatives that we present in the cloud, but there are options available if we do locally? This application, which Axel and spoke earlier this year, allows us to transfer files between your computer thanks to FTP, and among Android devices creating a WiFi hotspot to connect using the application.

Even we can use these two methods at a time, and continue to use the cloud as a backup of your files through the application.

Droid Sync Manager

If you want to follow without resorting to the cloud for it, and the application above you is somewhat complicated or messy to use, we will always project XDA-Developers that Pedro Moya very accurately described to us back in March. Install the Windows client, our Android application and not need any more: we see all of our computer files on the phone and vice versa.
Although the application is available on Google Play (and beta), we highly recommend that you go to the project page on XDA-Developers for you to be truly a day.

Cable: our old ally

And finally, do not want to miss the opportunity to mention a friend who is with us every day even though increasingly have more wireless enemies.
Yes, I mean the typical USB cable that doubles wire transfer and charging , and more likely to meet the basic needs that you may have on this subject with astonishing simplicity. As much as you enjoy life without wires give him a chance,he would not do the same.

Microsoft's new app Snipp3t 'connects' you with celebs

NEW YORK: If you cannot get enough of what your favourite celebrities are up to, Microsoft has a new app for you.

The "Snipp3t" lets you subscribe to celebrities and get personalised headlines, social media feeds and news about what the celebrity is up to.

"Tap on a celebrity to view their detailed profiles and explore a timeline of news stories about them. You can also tap on to a news story to get all relevant story content (news articles, photos, videos and social mentions) in one place," the app description read on Apple's App Store.
The app asks you to "personalise with Facebook" and then updates your news feed while giving you more options to follow more celebrities.

It is not clear why Microsoft made the app for iOS-only rather than Windows phone.

But for now, snipp3t users can keep a track of their favourite celebrities in a prompt and well presented way.

Hot startup: BrowserStack tweets its way to success

Not all Indian startups catch the attention of Twitter executives within their first few years. BrowserStack, a little known maker of developer tools founded by Ritesh Arora and Nakul Aggarwal, classmates at IIT Bombay, managed to do just that.

The company, which is the founders' fourth attempt at starting up, is profitable, has 24,000 paying customers and has Twitter's mobile platform head as its advisor. This is because BrowserStack addresses a pet peeve of developers.

A code has to work across multiple browsers - Windows' Internet Explorer, Apple's Safari, and Google's Chrome, to name a few. Each browser has its nuances, and a code's behaviour varies across desktop and mobile.

BrowserStack helps developers visualise what their code looks like and how it will perform across browsers and operating systems.

"Developer tools—particularly testing tools—are a challenging business to tackle," Jeff Seibert, the director of mobile platform at Twitter. "The field lacks the sex appeal of consumer products and the high visibility of classic enterprise software but the opportunity is immense."

Siebert came on board as an advisor to the company when he saw the market they were addressing. Developer tools are not big news, but they sure are sought-after.

For instance, Bangalore-based Little Eye Labs solved another problem that haunted app developers - how much battery will the app eat up? Facebook snapped up the one-year-old company earlier this year

Google to assist Narendra Modi to develop Varanasi as national hub for culture and heritage

NEW DELHI: Narendra Modi won his Varanasi Lok Sabha seat with a massive majority and now the prime minister wants to say thank you to the people of the temple town. All election winners pledge sincerely to work for their constituency, then promptly forget about it.

But Modi aims to be different — he's already kicked off the process of developing Varanasi as a national hub for culture and heritage. Among those said to be working on the project is Google, apart from professionals and consultants engaged in identifying tourism hotspots in and around Varanasi, beautification, landscaping, mapping the city for better movement and security.
That should hopefully ease some of the congestion that chokes the city besides reducing pollution levels and making Varanasi a nicer place to live in and visit. After Modi announced his interest in the development of Varanasi in May, many companies have come forward with proposals to assist the government in projects related to cleanliness, tourism and infrastructure.

Many are in talks with Modi's team. The PM himself discussed the prospects of using social media for projects on cleanliness and governance with Facebook chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg during her visit to India last month.

Google declined to comment on whether it's undertaken any work specific to Varanasi but a spokesperson said, "As part of our ongoing initiative with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to bring India's national monuments online, we continue to explore opportunities to collaborate further. We have nothing more to share at this point."
People who have attended two meetings held by Modi to draw up a development roadmap for Varanasi say he has stressed the need to preserve its "pauranik swaroop" (ancient ethos) while implementing the socalled Kashi Vision that is expected to get a high-power launch on August 20. Kashi is the ancient name for Varanasi.

The municipality has been asked to go full steam ahead on a cleanup programme. Besides this, Modi also wants a tourist help centre, an upgradation of the local airport and visas on arrival for eligible international passengers in the next few months.

He also wants to establish a stateof-the-art music academy of global standards in what's being seen as an attempt to revive the city's ancient traditions, such as organising the kind of concert festivals that Varanasi was once famous for. Modi wants the proposed institute to act as a patron for musical families from Varanasi, said mayor Ram Gopal Mohale.

A team is working on plans for the institute featuring an auditorium, for which land has already been acquired. Singers Channulal Mishra and Girija Devi have been suggested as the institute's resident musicians, Mohale said. Some pointers are being taken from PM's home state of Gujarat.

"The survey and makeover of ghats along the Varuna river on which the old city stands has started and is likely to get over soon," says Varanasi Development Authority secretary SR Mishra. "They are being modelled on the Sabarmati river front development."
